Why we do what we do

Way back in 2000, we noticed that no-one was offering Canadians an affordably-priced way to obtain the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). So, we set out to do better and on July 6, 2001, freecourse.ca was accredited by the Government of Canada and ever since we have offered Canada’s lowest-priced PCOC program.

We called ourselves frecourse.ca because we were the first PCOC course provider to offer the accredited PCOC course online free of charge and we were also the first to offer it free in the classroom.

Our mission today is the same as it was in 2001, to provide:

  • The highest-quality learning experience;
  • Excellent personal service and support, and
  • The lowest-priced PCOC in Canada.

In addition, freecourse.ca is 100% Canadian-owned, whereas the three biggest PCOC sellers in Canada (BoaterExam.com, BoatSmart.com, and BoatEd.com) are all American owned.

Thank you to everybody who supported us over the years and welcome to those of you who are just discovering us.

If you have questions, please check our Frequently Asked Questions page. We are always trying to improve. Please send your suggestions to us at: support@freecourse.ca. If you prefer to speak with an actual human being, please call us at: 613-791-4521 (any day 10h00-20h00 EST).

We hope that you enjoy the accredited PCOC course.

Be safe, be well, and have a very good day.

Wear It!

Failure to wear a flotation device is the leading contributing factor in boating fatalities. When on the water, the single-most important thing that you can do to prevent drowning is to always wear a properly adjusted PFD or lifejacket of appropriate type, size, and fit.
